Muslim Girls Rise: Inspirational Champions of Our Time by Saira Mir, illustrated by Aaliyah Jaleel is a great book to share during Ramadan, or any time. You don’t have to be Muslim to be inspired by the women profiled inside, but certainly these courageous, brilliant and focused women may serve as powerful role models to young Muslim women and girls who are trying to find their footing in a world that doesn’t always value diversity.
Some of these champions you may have heard of like Olympic medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and human rights activist Malala Yousafzai. There are also Muslim women highlighted who are doing great things who are not as high-profile, like comic Negin Farsad, Sana Amanat and G. Willow Wilson, creators of Pakistani-American comic book hero, Ms. Marvel and Hibah Rahmani, a flight control engineer at NASA who fled the war in Kuwait as a child.
Muslim Girls Rise: Inspirational Champions of Our Time is a great book to inspire and inform children from age 4+.
